“I’m disappointed in you”-my swim coach
I was livid and started seeing red.
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing this Saturday evening.
It had been a long day.
We had team practice from 8-11 AM and put in 6000+ meters.
Then we had a swim meet to go to after.
1500 meter warm up to start.
And then I had 5 events-3 individual (200 meter fly, 200 individual medley, and 100 freestyle) and 2 team relays (400 medley and 200 freestyle).
1st and 2nd place in every single event.
Now at 7 PM at night my coach was telling me he was disappointed.
“Eric, what do you mean? We cleaned house at the meet today!”-Me
“I know we did. That’s good but this is a small meet. I know you didn’t give it your all..”-Coach
“Chan-listen: You have the potential for more! No matter the meet or race, ALWAYS give 100% as you’ll be amazed by what you achieve! Leave no doubt about your greatness”-Coach
The next day I set two personal records.
He was right.
I didn’t need a cheerleader.
I needed a COACH to help me see potential in be that I was too scared to see.
I needed him to challenge me to raise my expectations of myself.
A great coach in sports, life, business, etc. helps see the INVISIBLE and make it VISIBLE!
