Some Monday Motivation..
I used to sell Speedos back in college to make money.
I’d work 15-20 hours during the week..
And then 25-30 hours on some weekends at swim meets.
I remember waking up at 3 AM on a Saturday…
Saying “goodbye” to my roommates were still up partying..
And then I head to the store to load up the 91′ Ford Ranger truck.
Since I knew I had to drive at least 1-2 hours to get to the meet..
I would bring extra water bottles in case the truck overheated.
Once at the meet, I’d be on my feet for the next 10-12 hours.
You know – slinging speedos 😃
Zero breaks – cause I was the only one there.
I’d eat and drink nothing all day to avoid using the restroom because I couldn’t leave the merchandise unattended.
Once the meet was over, I’d load the truck up..
And RACE to the restroom.
Then I’d eat dinner at some fast food joint.
THEN I’d take the journey back home.
I’d have to be careful not to push the engine too hard or it’d overheat.
(Which happened about 50% of the time..which sucked because this was before iPhones or smart phones were even…smart)
I’d eventually make it home around 7 or 8 PM.
Then I’d do it again the next day.
All that for $7/hour.
That was over 16 years ago.
I feel blessed because I’ve earned a little bit more since then 😂
And have put myself in a position to have financial freedom.
I get to make my own schedule and do what I want.
When I want.
Was it because I was slingin’ speedos?
BUT that tough time made me realize that I was getting paid the exact value I was bringing the marketplace.
And if I wanted to earn more, I had to INCREASE my value.
So I invested, learned and mastered B2B sales.
A high-leverage skill with a HIGH VALUE in the marketplace.
AKA unlimited earning potential.
So when I reflect back, I’m thankful for those long days..
As it gave me clarity to choose a greater future..
And to be in a position to help others achieve the same things I’ve been blessed with ❤️
