Some say “don’t focus on trying to make your weaknesses better..”
And to just “focus on your strengths.”
Most misunderstand this and here’s what I mean:
If you have weaknesses that hurt your performance..
Then you MUST find a way to fill the gap.
Let me give you an example:
I used to have this rep, Chris.
Chris had a lot of great strengths.
He used to always focus on his strengths.
However, like everyone, he had weaknesses too.
One key one was blaming others when things went wrong.
Whether it was deals going sideways, missing his number, etc.
Excuses were just a normal thing.
I did my best to coach him through this.
To take ownership.
But he just blamed me for being a bad boss as his results stayed at the bottom.
Eventually we separated ways and he went to new company.
Fast forward 6-7 years?
In that time he worked for 6-7 different companies.
Yes, a new company every 6-18 months.
I heard from the team that at each place he also blamed the company and leadership..
And continued to underperform..
And thus, why he kept bouncing between jobs 🤦🏻♂️
The truth is this:
Your SINS follow you EVERYWHERE.
If you have weaknesses that impact the core responsibilities of your job…
Then you MUST find a way to overcome them.
Or else they’ll haunt you regardless of where you go.
Do you agree?
